In Ancient mythology the Myrtle tree is sacred, especially to Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love and beauty. Myrtle trees were planted in Aphrodite’s temple gardens and she is often depicted with a Myrtle crown or wreath. When Venus visited the island of Cytheraea, she found herself naked and realised she could not present herself to the residents this way. Instead she covered herself with sprigs picked from the myrtle tree and from that day on the myrtle tree was sacred to her as a symbol of good fortune.
